Patching Song Lyrics
Hey team,
First of all, I had a great New Years for everyone who was there. Thanks a ton, Jason.
Secondly, I'm going to try and post stuff more often on here again.
Thirdly, content:
I'm a big fan of rap, as I'm sure many of you are too. Regardless, I think I have a couple good improvements to scattered lyrics. Not replacing the whole song or anything, just a few choice lines. I'm going to present them as you would a source code patch, where added lines are prefaced with a +, and deleted lines are prefaced with a -. Other lines are presented normally.
1) Black Star is great, but they have this one really whack, vaguely homophobic line:
Cats who claim they hard be mad fags,
so I run through 'em like water through sand bags.
Mad fags? Come on, Mos. I improve it thusly:
-Cats who claiming they hard be mad fags,
+Cats be claiming they hard while their dicks sag,
So I run through 'em like flood water through sand bags.
Furthermore, I think "Lose Yourself" is easily Eminem's best. I especially like the quicker lines:
And these times are so hard and it's getting even harder
Tryin to feed and water my seed, plus
Teeter-totter caught up between trying to be a father and a prima donna
Really good, right? Well, let's see what happens when you add comic book references!
And these times are so hard and it's getting even harder
Tryin to feed and water my seed, plus
-Teeter-totter caught up between trying to be a father and a prima donna
+Teeter-totter can't ever decide if I'm Spiderman or Peter Parker
Boom! Rap magic! I think he even dressed up as Spiderman in one of his videos.
Anyways, do you guys have any lyric improvements?

I like the Peter Parker thing, but it doesn't make as much sense in terms of Eminem's life.
There are a few Jay Z lyrics I have improvements for. But I can't remember them. I'll try and think of it.

Speaking of Jay-Z lyric improvements, his "Can I Get A..." provides a shining example of how, in limited circumstances, radio censorship can improve a song. "Can I get a what what" is more infectious and more memorable than the original lyric, the jarringly aggressive "Can I get a fuck you"
The other example is can think of is from the Bloodhound Gang, where the "fucker" in "burn motherfucker, burn" is replaced with funny noises, making the Bloodhound Gang, for a fleeting instant, near-tolerable.

I agree entirely with both of CT's comments.
I used to think I had an improvement for this section of JayZ's "Renegade", but now that I think of it, I don't.
By the bodega, iron under my coat, feelin brave, a
Doo-rag wrappin my waves up, pockets full of hope.
Do not step to me - I'm awkward, I box lefty. An orphan,
my pops left me, and often, my momma wasn't home.
Could not stress to me I wasn't grown -- especially on nights
I brought somethin home to quiet the stomach rumblings.

is the "mad fags" line really just vaguely homophobic?
good job - i'm a fan of the improvements

Well, I think people over-apply the term homophobic. I think many people who come off as anti-gay aren't afraid of homosexuals. They're just nasty people, or more likely, dumb/ignorant people. So, vaguely homophobic but certainly out of line?

TMP is dead. Long live TMP.
